Australian Doctors for Africa (ADFA)

A Nonprofit Organization working toward Holistic Orthopedic service Advancement in Ethiopia

Since 2015, when ADFA began its work in Ethiopia, the organization has made remarkable contributions across multiple institutions, including Hawassa University. ADFA has played a key role in strengthening local capacity through various training programs, professional development initiatives and infrastructure support. Their efforts include medical equipment donations, operation room renovations, the construction of a dedicated orthopedic surgery complex and the provision of a C-arm and implant support to enhance musculoskeletal care in southern Ethiopia.
ADFA has also left a lasting impact on our residency training by organizing the Pre-Basic Principles of Fracture Management Course for junior residents in collaboration with the AO Alliance. Their partnership has significantly advanced orthopedic education and service delivery.
The photo below captures the inauguration of the renovated orthopedic ward and operating theater in March 2023, attended by Dr. Graham Forward, CEO of ADFA — a moment symbolizing their enduring contribution to the development of orthopedic care in Ethiopia.
