AO Alliance

Healing More Than Broken Bones

AO Alliance (AOA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving fracture care and reducing injury-related disability and mortality in over 30 low- and middle-income countries across Africa and Asia, including Ethiopia. Since 2015, AOA has played a key role in the establishment and expansion of orthopedic services at Hawassa University. Their contributions include consultant fellowship training, infrastructure development such as operation room renovation, C-arm procurement, and supply of surgical instruments and implants.
AOA has also supported major clinical research projects including the BOSAD Project, STOPUS Trial, and CORE MSK Registry. Through continuous training programs, they have enhanced residency education with basic and advanced fracture management courses, AO PEER research training, and pediatric orthopedic rotations at CURE Hospital in Addis Ababa. They have also trained OR personnel and nurses through regular ORP courses and fellowships. For eight consecutive years, AOA has supported non-operative fracture management courses for medical interns, fostering evidence-based orthopedic care for over 20 million people.
