Assistant Professor of Orthopedic and Trauma Surgery
Dr. Hizkyas Kassaye is an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic and Trauma Surgery at Hawassa University Comprehensive Specialized Hospital, Ethiopia. Since joining the department, he has been actively involved in clinical service, teaching and research, with a strong focus on orthopedic trauma related complications and spine trauma care in resource-limited settings.
Currently, he is serving under the department and spine unit at Hawassa University, providing orthopedic and trauma care to patients. Dr. Hizkyas is also engaged in academic teaching and mentorship, serving as research advisor for postgraduate trainees.
Dr. Hizkyas’s research interests include fracture-related infections, antibiotic resistance and challenges of spine trauma in low-resource settings.
He is an incoming Orthopedic Spine fellow at Western University, Canada (2026–2027) and is enrolled in the AO Global Spine Diploma Program (2026), reflecting his commitment to advancing spine surgery education and improving access to specialized care in Ethiopia.
He is active member of Ethiopian society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (ESOT), AO Spine and Global burden of Disease (GBD).
