Dr. Yisihak Zerihun Erge is a Consultant Orthopedic and Trauma Surgeon and Assistant Professor at Hawassa University, Ethiopia, where he has served since 2020. He is currently pursuing a Fellowship in Advanced Orthopedic Trauma and Spine Surgery at Ghurki Trust Teaching Hospital in Lahore, Pakistan. Within Hawassa University, he has held key leadership roles, including Postgraduate Program Coordinator since 2023 and Hospital Board Member since 2022.
Dr. Yisihak’s clinical practice focuses on complex trauma management, musculoskeletal tumor surgery, infection control, and reconstructive orthopedics. Academically, he is devoted to mentoring residents and conducting problem-driven research that addresses musculoskeletal challenges in low-resource settings. He is a core member of the BOSAD (Bone Setting Associated Disability) project, which aims to promote safe, affordable and accessible injury care in Ethiopia.
He also serves as faculty for the AO Alliance Pre-Basic Fracture Care Training Program for orthopedic residents across Ethiopia, contributing to capacity building and surgical education.
Dr. Yisihak is an active member of the Ethiopian Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (ESOT), Ethiopian Medical Association (EMA), and AO Trauma, and a Fellow of the College of Surgeons of East, Central, and Southern Africa (COSECSA). His passion lies in advancing safe, equitable, and modern orthopedic trauma care for all Ethiopians.
